Crownhill Packaging is proud to announce our sponsorship of the 2021 Winding Roads Festival that recently took place in aid of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham.
Learn more about the event and how Big Brothers Big Sisters support young people across North America below.
The Winding Roads festival is a community fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham held in Port Perry, Ontario. Featuring a special selection of musicians, the festival took place at the Fairgrounds in Port Perry on Friday, September 17th and Saturday, September 18th, 2021.
Because Big Brothers Big Sisters has such a wide reach across North America, all fundraising is 100% led by the efforts of the local community, including sponsorship from companies like Crownhill. This is not the first time Crownhill has done our part to help excellent initiatives like Big Brothers Big Sisters, as we were also a sponsor back in 2019.
All proceeds from the event went to supporting the mentoring efforts of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham, including sessions inside and outside of school programs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is a community-led organization that works to improve the lives and wellbeing of children and teenagers across North America.
It works by partnering children and young people with members of the public, who will act as their mentor, also known as a Big Brother or Big Sister.
Here in Canada, there are over 100 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies. Big Brothers Big Sisters support children through a variety of activities, including through virtual catch-ups!
Mentors and mentees take part in activities such as:
Mentors can also support their mentee’s education by helping them with homework and their reading. For teenagers and young adults, many mentors offer employment and training assistance, such as sessions on how to create a resume, succeed at an interview, or apply to a university.
Everyone deserves a helping hand, especially our youth. Today, many children across Canada are experiencing unprecedented hardship as they face setbacks such as lost education due to the necessary restrictions needed to curb the spread of COVID-19. To make matters worse, young people are also facing a highly competitive employment market and a challenging mental health crisis.
A Big Brother or Big Sister can make a huge impact on the lives of young people by offering them guidance, teaching them skills and even by just being there to listen to them. And it all starts with a simple act of kindness and support.
Crownhill Packaging is proud to support our local communities, particularly the young who face adversity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
We hope all those interested can also contribute to this fantastic organization. This can be through donating, volunteering, taking part in competitions for prizes
.
