Crownhill Packaging Donates Disposable Gowns to Baycrest Health Sciences

As part of Crownhill’s commitment to supporting Ontario during these difficult times, we are pleased to announce a donation of 495 disposable gowns to Baycrest.

Located in North York, Toronto, Baycrest  is a global leader in geriatric residential living, healthcare, research, innovation and education, with a special focus on brain health and aging.. With full affiliation with the University of Toronto, Baycrest is recognized as a leader in clinical training and medicine for older adults. For decades, it has helped provide fundamental care to our loved ones, whether they’re our parents, grandparents, uncles or aunts.

COVID-19 has had a disproportionate impact on older populations in Ontario, with the majority of deaths from this virus originating from older adults with pre-existing health conditions. It is also putting a strain on the ability of the healthcare system to provide treatment for those with medical conditions that are not related to COVID-19 due to a lack of resources. Because of this, Baycrest is facing an unprecedented challenge, yet they continue to preserve and care for our most vulnerable to the very best of their ability. Crownhill would like to thank them and their staff for their dedication and resilience during these difficult times.

Prior to this donation, Baycrest contacted us and informed us of just how persistent this struggle continues to be:

“The challenge of COVID-19 is simply massive and expensive for our hospital and LTC home with 1,100 seniors. Baycrest is in desperate need of 5,000 disposable level 2 gowns.”

With protective gear now in short supply, our healthcare services are struggling to help support our most vulnerable. Crownhill feels that nobody working in these establishments should have to put their own well-being at risk to care for others, which is why we have decided to answer Baycrest’s request for disposable gowns.

How Disposable Gowns Help

When we think about Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), we tend to imagine specialized items such as masks, goggles, or face shields. While Crownhill Packaging has already donated these types of equipment to other healthcare organizations such as Collingwood G&M Hospital and Children’s Aid Society of Toronto, there are also more simple forms of PPE that can play an important role in reducing viral transmission. By shielding the majority of a person’s body from viral particles, gowns are a basic but essential necessity that help keep staff and patients safe in everyday care.

It is hoped that by supplying these gowns, staff at Baycrest can carry out their inspirational work of caring for Ontario’s seniors without putting themselves or their patients at risk. Crownhill also hopes that these gowns will be able to keep any patients better protected from accidental transmission, allowing them to get the proper care they deserve.
