Crownhill Sponsors the 2023 Winding Roads Festival

Crownhill Packaging is proud to sponsor the 2023 Winding Roads festival again, in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham (BBBSND). It’s actually our third time lending support to this wonderful event and cause, having sponsored the 2019 Winding Roads Festival and 2021 Winding Roads Festival.

The 2023 Winding Roads Festival

As North Durham’s largest music festival, Winding Roads is a community fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham. Taking place at Adamson Systems Engineering in Port Perry, Ontario, and running Friday, September 22nd through Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, it offers music performances and events for families and adult concertgoers alike.

Friday’s event, dubbed Family Fun Night, featured family-centric activities including a video dance party, games of all sorts, delicious food, and more. Saturday’s festivities offered up top Canadian country talent, including Owen Riegling, Lydia Sutherland, and Red Cup County. The night itself was headlined by Juno award winners and 9-time CCMA award winners, The Washboard Union.

As a repeat sponsor of the festival, Crownhill is proud to be among the friends of Winding Roads.

All About Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham

Winding Roads is all in support of the mentoring programs provided by BBBSND. To date, the festival has raised over $275,000 and inspired many to volunteer with the organization. One of the most interesting and unique opportunities the festival provides is for the children of BBBSND to watch the event’s sound check, meet the artists, and take a peek behind the scenes.

Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS)  is a community-led organization that works to improve the wellbeing of children and teenagers. BBBS works to partner young people, referred to as Little Brothers or Little Sisters, with volunteer mentors, known as Big Brothers or Big Sisters.

Together, they work to build the self-esteem and life skills of the Littles, helping them form interests, have new experiences, and make connections in the community. For younger Littles, volunteers often help with homework and reading as well, while older Littles may gain employment or training from their mentors.

Canada alone has over 100 Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies.

Looking to Support Big Brothers Big Sisters?

There are several ways to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, and each is just as valuable and important as the others:

  • Volunteer as a mentor to a Little.
  • Donate to Big Brothers Big Sisters.
  • Partner with BBBS and sponsors events or grants.
  • Host an event benefitting the BBBS organization.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has demonstrated there’s a big social return on investment in our youth. For every $1 investing in mentoring, $23 is returned to society. Mentored youth gain financial literacy, report confidence in their life choices, and pursue healthy lifestyles. They develop strong social networks, attain leadership positions in their careers, and report higher earnings. They’re also 50% more likely to volunteer (and give 30% more of their time), helping continue the positive cycle of elevating youth.

Once again, Crownhill is proud to have sponsored the Winding Roads Festival and help further the Big Brothers Big Sisters cause. We’ll see everyone again soon!
